"I had a farm in Africa ... at the foot of the Ngong Hills."

- Issak Dinsen, author of Out of Africa

There is something incredibly romantic about that sentence. It conjures up visions of sunsets in the Serengeti, the blazing sun setting down below the horizon, giving way to the night and a time when humans are not always at the top of the food chain ...

The African night ... that magical, special time, when the predators gain strength while the prey tries to make it through another span of darkness. Lions prowl about in the dark, the sounds of their roaring mingling with those of night birds calling back and forth, punctuated by the occasional whooping laugh of a hyena.

In 1993, I had the opportunity to spend six weeks in Africa. While a month-and-a-half seems like a long time, the days and nights flew by on a whirlwind tour of seven countries. Before I knew it, I was back in "civilization", experiencing more culture shock coming back than that of what I faced on "The Dark Continent."

I invite you to join me on my journey, helping me relive it, while experiencing vicariously the thrills and wonder of an African safari.
